ART UNION MONEY.

(To the Editor.) Sir—Will you kindly permit me to reply to “Apti-Humbug” regarding his challenge and concern. It is to his credit that he is concerned for the health of the rising generation. I wish I could persuade him to add to his concern the moral health of the rising generation. If “life is a gamble,” then why his concern? A throw of the dice will about settle it. I am glad the Sunshine Association turned down this mirage of £5OO, raked together from a people living in an artificial excitement, of instant wealth or beggary consequent on the whim of dice or chance. If these “worthy gentlemen” judge lit as money from a tainted source then they must be credited with consistency, and their courageous action proves their fitness for the job. Sunshine is too sweet a thing to be associated with pakapoo, fan tan, gaming houses, totalisators or art unions. This “wonderful gift” has too many disreputable relatives. Life is only a gamble to the gambler, and this is the spirit that ignores the righteousness of God. It is a pity that the Government has not the strength to act in the same spirit. The Sunshine Associaion rightly refuses to put the stamp of respectability on this form of gambling.—l am, etc., i S. J. WEBB. The Manse, Opunake, April 28.
