KAIMATA DISTRICT NEWS

EXCEPTIONALLY HEAVY RAINS. The Kaimata Football Club called its first practice during the week-end. About 20 players were present, but owing to several heavy showers the practice had to be abandoned. The Kaimate basketball team, which was playing a practice match with Convent Old Girls’ (Inglewood) was also forced to abandon the game before half-time. A re-play of the match has been arranged to take place at Inglewood on Thursday week. During the week-end 1.3 inches of rain was registered. From 9.30 a.m. on Monday to 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday 4.7 inches fell. All the streams in the district are exceedingly high. Some old residents state that they have never seen them so high before. Owing to the torrential rain the annual meeting of householders was abandoned, as only four of the old committee and the headmaster were present. The horses in a waggon belonging to a local farmer bolted from the factory yesterday morning without the driver. The horses left the factory at full gallop, but checked their pace at the store and turned the corner at an easy canter, arriving home safely after negotiating two sharp turns and a narrow bridge without mishap to themselves, the hames or the waggon.
