IMPORTATION OF PETROL

RUSSIAN EMBARGO OPPOSED

OPINION AT HAWERA MEETING.

AUCKLAND REQUEST CRITICISED.

The attitude of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce in asking for the prohibition of the importation of Russian patrol was criticised by .Mr. W. G. Walkley at a meeting called by the Hawera Chamber last night. He contended that to be consistent chambers of commerce could not hold this view.

Mr. A. O. Heany, organising secretary of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, had just finished an address, the keynote of which was the advocacy of less Government interference in business. Mr. Webley referred to the Auckland resolution, which if carried into effect, he said, would allow the American companies to continue exploiting New Zealand as they had done for years. It would be like making the world safe for the mortgagee of the Union JackAmerica. The meeting took no action.
