MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—As there appears to be some confusion in the minds of many residents of this town as to the qualifications required before an adult person is entitled to exercise a vote at the forthcoming municipal electipnsi I am sure that your paper would be rendering a valuable service if you would set out plainly what qualifications are required. Also many people are of the opinion that iflthey are on the Parliamentary roll they are entitled to vote at the local bodies’ election without enrolling on the municipal roll.—I am, etc- ' RATEPAYER, New Plymouth, March 9.

[The fact that a voter’s name is on the Parliamentary roll does not entitle him to vote at the municipal elections unless his name is on the borough roll, which comprises the names of ratepayers and of those having the residential qualification. . Any person who has resided in the Dominion for twelve months and in. the borough for three months and is over the age of 21 is entitled to vote on the residential' qualification. Ratepayers and then* wives or husbands, as the case may be, may be placed on the ratepayers’ roll and vote at all borough elections. But .in every case’ it .is necessary for the wife or husband of a ratepayer who has voting qualifications to sign a declaration, which must be made before a person who is already on the roll, a Justice of the Peace, a minister of religion or the town' clerk.—Ed.]
