CONTROL OF CYCLING
POWERS OF THE CENTRES. CONFERENCE AT CHRISTCHURCH By Telegraph-Press Association. Christchurch, March 19. A suggestion that the centres of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic and Cycling Associations be reorganised to vest the full control of cycling with the actual representative nominees was not supported at a conference this morning of cycling delegates from various parts of the Dominion. The subject was introduced by a remit from Auckland. The mover, Mr. H. L. Towers, said the remit was presented not because there was dissatisfaction with the present system of control but with the object of assisting the general cause of athletics and cycling. Some of the delegates thought the proposed system, would be cumbersome. Mr. P. N. Robinson said a Wellington remit suggested the representation of cycling and athletics should be changed slightly. Finally the Wellington remit was withdrawn. ' The Auckland proposal was defeated, only the mover and seconder favouring it. . ,’ The voting was even on a Wellington remit proposing that all registration fees from cyclists be retained by the New Zealand body controlling amateur cycling. No action was taken. A Wellington remit that the headquarters of the New Zealand Cycling Council be transferred to Christchurch was lost. , Support was not accorded another Wellington remit urging that the cycling centres where constituted have full control of local cycling, and that no cycling competition of any kind take place without their authority. It was agreed to slightly amend a Canterbury remit to provide that clubs be entitled to delegates on cycling centres in the following proportions: Six to 15 members, one delegate; 16 to 39, two delegates; 31 or more, .three delegates.
