ALLEGED RELIEF FRAUD
WELLINGTON BOARD'S £498 MAN AND WOMAN SENT FOR TRIAL, FALSE REPRESENTATION ALLEGED. GRANTS GIVEN OVER THREE YEARS By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, March 10. Allegations that in three years relief and rations to the value of £498 had been obtained from the Wellington Hospital Board by means of false representations were made in the Magistrate s Court to-day. Two members of the family of four allegedly concerned were committed to the Supreme Court for trial. . . Mona Bartlett was charged with being a rogue and a vagabond in that she obtained rent to the value of £2 Ils by falsely representing that none of her family was working. Keith Bartlett was charged with being a rogue and a vagabond in respect of two alleged offences of obtaining rations to the value of £2 11s by falsely representing that he was the only member of his family working. Alfred* James Bartlett and Maud Bartlett, father and mother respectively, did not appear and a medical certificate that they were unable to appear was produced. Counsel for the board indicated that the alleged offences took place from September, 1929, to October, 1932, and it would be shown, he said, that the lowest income of the family during the period was - £6 Ils and the highest £ll 16s 6d, combining the wages and grants by the board. In addition, grants were made from other sources.
