NIGHT FLYING SQUAD
MELBOURNE POLICE PATROL. THIRTY-EIGHT MOTOR-CYCLES. Six new machines have been added V) the Melbourne police motor-cycle' patrol to form a special night flying squad to range the roads of the metropolitan area to catch motor-car thieves, store robbers and housebreakers. The machines were imported from England specially for the police department. The cycles are of eight horse-power, and they are capable of a speed of 80 miles an hour. The retail price of each outfit, with a side-car, is £225. Twelve more constables will be drafted to the motor-cycle patrol to man the machines, and the flying squad will be at work in a few days. Some of the machines used by the police motor-cy-le patrol have covered 60,000 miles, and they are still giving satisfactory vice. There are 38 machines in the patrol. - -ey are employed chiefly in traffic duty.
