MISREPRESENTATION DENIED

PRACTISING FEES OF DOCTORS. EXPLANATION BY MR. MASTERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Hon. R. Masters, deputy-Leader of the Legislative Council, mentioned today that tie had been accused of misrepresenting the position in respect to the amount of the annual practising fee to be paid by medical practitioners. “All I can say,” said the Minister, "is that the medical council, which consists wholly of medical practitioners, had referred to it with the authority of the Minister of Health the question whether the medical profession should pay an annual practising fee sufficient to cover the cost of administration of the medical council. “I am advised that a fee of five shillings was considered to be undignified, and that the council represented a" fee of one guinea would be preferable. There is a nominated- member- of the British Medical Association on the medical council, and this representative was present at the meeting. “It will be seen, therefore, that I correctly stated the position and there has been no misrepresentation on my part This statement is confirmed by the Minister of Health.”
