Opportunity was taken at the Hawera Swimming Club’s evening yesterday to make a presentation to Mr. Vernon Spragg, a prominent member of the dub who has recently been married. Messrs. D. C. and A. J. Ryan spoke eulogistically of Mr. Spragg’s services to the club and wished him well The funeral of Mrs. E. G. Hooker, wife of Mr. R. W. Hooker, of the South Road, Hawera, whose death followed a short illness, took place on Thursday. Mr. Hooker has been attached to th* linesmen’s department of the Post end Telegraph Department for ten years in -Hawera and, as a mark of esteem, the hearprs at the funeral were mostly officers of the department They were Messrs. Walsh, Bray, T. Carter, Rouse, Bergman and G. Dick. The Rev. H. Whitby James, vicar of St Mary’*, officiated at the
