FAILURE TO PAY LEVIES
PROSECUTION AT WAITARA.
JUDGMENTS GIVEN FOR DEBT.
For failing to pay instalments of the unemployment levy F. Cook, a single man, appeared in the Waitara Court yesterday before Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M.
It was explained that Cook had appeared on the same charge ori December 2, when an adjournment was made to allow him to make some payments. He had not done so.
In evidence Cook stated that he had not been paid for some drainage work he had done. His mother was dependent upon him. At present he was digging potatoes at Rahotu and he would endeavour to make payment when the work was completed.
After advising Cook to pay what he could out of anything he might earn in the meantime the magistrate adjourned the matter to the April sitting of the Opunake Court, by which time it was expected the potato digging would be completed.
For riding an unlighted bicycle in Queen Street, Waitara, on the night of February 10, Sidney Bennett was fined 5s (costs 10s).
Judgment for plaintiff by default was given on the claim of H W.ells and Co. Ltd. against K. Bedford for £1 7s 6d (costs 16s).
On a judgment summons, C. Wharton was ordered to pay F. Ogier £4 13s 7d forthwith, in default five days’ imprisonment.
