OVER 90 PEOPLE ON SUMMIT THREE TARANAKI CLUBS’ MEMBERS GREETINGS EXCHANGED ON TOP. The summit of Mount Egmont was a popular spot yesterday, when over 90 people took advantage of ideal climbing conditions and made the ascon; from three angles—North Egmont, Stratford and Dawson Falls. At the suggestion of the Stratford Mountain 1 Club members of the three alpine clubs in Taranaki met on the top to exchange greetings. Tha Stratford contingent numbered 24 and they made the trip from the Stratford plateau In time to prepare tea for the other club members. Mount Egmont Alpine Club climbers numbered 23, some of them coming on from Syme Hut, where the night had been spent. Taranaki Alpine Club members ascended from North Egmont, the party numbering 27.. The top was reached shortly after 1 o clock and the alpinists from the other two clubs were by then waiting for them. Several private parties made the total cn the summit over 90. Conditions were ideal for the ascent, a cool breeze taking the heat out of the sun. The Stratford climbers descended with the Taranaki contingent as far as Humphries Castle, when they branched off for the Stratford House. "Meetings such as these are always popular as. they give alpinists the opportunity to renew old friendships and form new ones,” said a climber last riignt. “Moreover, they accentuate the value of co-operation between the three Taranaki clubs and impress on members the fact that the objects of each club are similar. It was a great day.”
