HEATH OF SCHOOLBOY
PARENTS AWARDED DAMAGES, COLLISION BETWEEN, CARS. , Palmerston- North, February 14. j A claim for £lOOO damages from William John Barlow, engineer, of Rongotea, and Annie Emma Glencora Turnbull, of Feilding, by Robert Alexander Bucha-. pan, postmaster, of Rongotea, and Elizabeth Ellen Buchanan, for the death of their son, Wesley Hamer Buchanan, was heard in the Supreme Court yesterday before Mr. Justice MacGregor. The claim was the sequel to a collision between two cars at the comer of the Palmerston North-Rongotea Road and No. 4 Line on June 29, as a result of which Wesley Hamer Buchanan, a schoolboy, aged 16 years, was killed. The boy was a passenger in a car driven by a son of the plaintiff, Barlow, which had collided with a car driven by. defendant, Mrs. Turnbull. The statement of claim alleged negligence on the part of both defendants. Defendants’ counsel sought a non-suit, but his Honour refused this, remarking that though the case went close to the line he considered there was reasonable evidence for it to go to the jury. The jury, after a retirement of 25 minutes, returned with ' a verdict for plaintiff for £250 damages. Judgment was entered for plaintiff with costs.
