OPUNAKE COURT CASES

.JUDGMENT GIVEN FOR DEBT. In the following undefended civil cases at the Opunake Court yesterday judgment was given for plaintiff by default with costs by Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M.: Taranaki Hospital Board v. Alfred Dobbs, £42 7s. 6d. (costs £4 7s. 6d.); H. W. Barraclough v. J. Emeny, £6 10s. sd. (£2 155.); Opunake Harbour Board v. Waikauri Wharemati Raupa, £26 9s. 4d. (£4 14s. 6d.); J. B. Mac Ewan and Co., Ltd. v. H. Hardwidge, £1 Is. 9d. (Bs.) and J. M. Murphy v. Reg King, £lO (£2 65.). In judgment summons cases orders were made as follow: Matthew Mulligan to pay the Opunake Harbour £6 14s. lOd. forthwith, and George A. Thomas to pay the Opunake Harbour Board £8 os. lOd. with costs 15s. 6d. forthwith, the default in each case to be seven days’ imprisonment, the warrants to be suspended on payment of 10s. a month. H. Pickering was ordered to pay Hector Parkes £8 3s. 6d. with costs 15s. 6d. forthwith, in default seven days’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended on payment of 10s. per week. J. Lichtwark appeared and was examined in respect to a judgment summons for £2 10s. issued by B. F. Bowman, for whom Mr. C. O. Edmonds appeared. The magistrate expressed surprise that judgment debtor did not know whether his mother-in-law received a pension, and he adjourned the case for a few minutes while Constable Clouston made inquiries. The constable reported that the mother-in-law received a pension of £3 18s. per month. The magistrate made an order for the payment of the amount forthwith, in default three days imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended on payment of 2s. a week.
