GENERAL AND SOCIAL ITEMS. The footballers’ dance on Friday night was fairly well and everyone spent an enjoyable time. Messrs. G. Buttler and R. Nofgate were masters of ceremony. The first of a series of three euchre parties was held on Saturday night in aid of church funds. A good number assembled. Mrs. R. Inder won the ladies’ first prize, Miss Waswo the second and Mrs. Lowery the consolation. Mrs. B. Hopkins won the men’s first prize, Mr. C. Penwarden the second and Mr. A. Williams the consolation. Mrs. Looney, sen., has gone to New Plymouth, where she is living with her mother, Mrs. Baker, sen. Mr. and Miss Hughson have gone to’ Auckland. They are accompanied by Mrs. Hughson, who has been paying a visit to „Rahotu. Miss Farquhar is a patient in the New Plymouth public .hospital. A fine hot day on Tuesday allowed those with the wheat crops to stack, but only just in time, for the rain commenced about 5 o’clock.
