Mr. E. Butler, Tauranga, formerly of Urenui, is spending a few days’ holiday at New Plymouth. Mr. N. S. Little has returned to New Plymouth after attending a sitting of the 'Auckland Mortgage Adjustment Commission at Rotorua. Mr. R. T. Mark, accountant of the National Bank of New Zealand at New Plymouth, has left on annual leave. He will visit Auckland and Te Aroha. The death has occurred of Sir John Arthur Thomson, till 1930 Regius Professor of Natural History at Aberdeen University, reports a London cable. He published many books and papers on natural history, biology, zoology,. evolution and allied subjects. Mr. Justice Smith has been offered and has accepted appointment as an American non-intemational member of the permanent commission under the treaty of conciliation between the United States and Peru, says a Wellington Press Association message. It is understood this is the first time a New Zealander has been appointed to such a position. Mr. E. D. Andrews, who has spent some time in New Zealand in connection with, his business interests, will leave by the Wanganella for Sydney on Thursday en route to England. While in New Zealand Mr. Andrews repeated his performance of 1926 by winning the New Zealand lawn tennis singles championship and, with C. Angas, Canterbury, in the doubles game, registered New Zealand’s only win against the visiting American team in the games played at Wellington.
