The question of opposing the application of Annie Josephine Fama, bankrupt, Hawera, for her discharge was considered by her creditors yesterday and, in view of the expense and inconvenience involved it was decided to take no action. Mr. C. O. Pratt, official assignee, presided over the meeting.

Mr. Pratt told a creditor that the furniture sold by auction tallied with the inventory taken immediately after adjudication. The house in which Mrs. Fama was living was owned by a relative to whom she was paying rent Her husband, B. A. Fama, had been employed in construction, the finance for which had been raised by way of mortgage to - a client of Welch, McCarthy, Houston and Coleman. The assignee said the dividend was Is Ojd in the £l. Assets had realised £ll6, nearly three-fourths of which had gone in preferential claims. Unsecured debts had totalled £570. - There had been no equity in her real estate. GENERAL ITEMS. Boy Breaks Arm. Graham Gollins, aged 15, son of Mr. T: C, Gollins, Hawera, broke his forearm yesterday when he slipped on concrete. Schoolboys’ Tour. The touring English schoolboys, whose itinerary did not permit a visit to Hawera, passed through that town by train yesterday. Members of the Empire Old Boys’ Association, including Mr. F.. E. Clarke, vice-president, met the party. Both the schoolboys and the associations expressed regret that Hawera could not have been visited. Volunteers for Camp. The Hawera section, First Battalion of the Taranaki Regiment, went into camp at Waverley yesterday. They formed part of the main body. PERSONAL. Mr. M. Gray, formerly of Hawera and now of Auckland, has completed his M.A. degree. Mr. A. C. Lovelock, Hawera, leaves for Pukekohe this week to judge the Jersey section at the Franklin show. Mr. A. Gray paid a farewell visit to Hawera yesterday prior to leaving for Auckland, where he will reside. The funeral of Mr. A. W, Hall, Hawera, on Sunday was largely attended. The casket was draped with a Union Jack, a tribute from the Returned Soldiers’ Association, and a Maori mat from Natives of the district.

Sympathy was expressed yesterday by 'Mr. J. M. Clague on the Hawera croquet lawns with Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs and with Mrs. Instone, who would not be playing in the tournament owing to bereavements in their family. Mr. Clague further regretted the absence of Capt. and Mrs.. Hartnell, New Plymouth, and Mi’s. Brass and Mrs. Smith, Wanganui, who were unable to attend owing to illness. The funeral of Mrs. Eva Elena Pennington, wife of Mr. John P. Pennington, Hawera, who died on Friday, took place on Sunday. The Rev. E. S. Emmitt conducted services at the house and graveside. A large number of wreaths was placed on the grave. The pall-bearers were Messrs. James and Walter Syme, Cyril Murch, Manson Barraclough, William McDonald and Albert HurrelL Mrs. Pennington, who was formerly Miss Sargeant, resided at Hawera many years ago. She then went to live in the Main Trunk district, returning to Hawera a few years ago. Mrs. Pennington for. some time had not enjoyed good health. She was a staunch adherent of the Methodist Church and took an active interest in its affairs. She leaves a husband but no family. She was a sister of the late Mrs. George Syme, Hawera.

AUROA PERSONAL AND GENERAL.

Mr. Challinor Lyndon is in the Hawera hospital. Mr. Hampton Mellor is again in the Hawera hospital. Mrs. Riddick senr. is in the Kaponga hospital. Mr. S. Millar is progressing favourably in the Hawera hospital. The Auroa library has received from the New Plymouth public library a large consignment of books by popular authors, which will prove very acceptable for the coming winter. It is intended to hold a public meeting later to consider the advisability of reducing the subscription as much as possible to meet the present conditions.

HAWERA OPERA HOUSE.

“SEED” (JOHN BOLES) TO-NIGHT. One of the most interesting screen productions of the current season has just been booked for showing at the Grand Theatre, Hawera, to-night, and at the Opera House finally to-morrow evening. This is “Seed,” adapted from Chas. G. Norris’ most popular novel, and presents an exceptional cast headed by John Boles Genevieve Tobin, Lois Wilson, Raymond Hackett, Zasu Pitts and Bette Davis. The story traces an interesting succession of events in the lives of a man, his wife, and his former sweetheart. The box plans will open at the Opera House Confectionery to-mor-row morning for the special Grade Fields attraction “Looking On the Bright Side,” which will commence its Hawera season of four nights and four matinees at the Opera House on Saturday afternoon. Intending patrons are advised to reserve at their earliest opportunity as there is sure to be a rush for seats.
