OIL EXTRACTED FROM COAL

RESULTS OF EXHAUSTIVE TESTS.

CHEAPEST KINDS OF COAL USED.

By, Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Feb. 10. The contract for oil extracted from British coal which has been placed with the Low Temperature Carbonisation Co. Ldt by the Admiralty is a sequel to exhaustive tests conducted partly in H.M.S. Westminster. It is understood this destroyer was filled with British coal-oil and without undergoing any special preparation burned nothing else for many weeks with satisfactory results.

The low temperature carbonisation process produces from every ton of coal about three-quarters of a ton of semi-, coke, about 5000 cubic feet of gas and 18 gallons of tar that is converted into oil. The cheapest kind of coal is used in the process.
