OVER £5000 IN CUSTOMS
PORT OF NEW PLYMOUTH FIGURES. INCREASE OVER JANUARY, 1932. An increase of £1250 16s 7d is shown in the customs duty collected at the port of New Plymouth in January, 1933, compared with the amount for January, 1932. Excise duty showed a decline of £6l 2s 6d and petrol tax a decline of £B3O 9s Od. Customs duty collected in,January, 1933, was £5216 2s lid and the figures in the same month of the previous year were £3965 6s 4d. The increase in a usually quiet month was due largely to a big direct shipment by the Pakeha. The figures for .the same month in 1931 .were £3867 5s Bd. , .
Excise duty totalled 566 5s last month compared, with £627 7s 6d in January, 1932, and £l7O 15s in January ,ji1931. The amount of petrol tax collected collected totalled £3204 Is 6d, compared with £4034 10s 6d in January, 1932, and £3634 15s 6d in. January, 1931. .
