By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.
Rec. 12.30 a.m. Melbourne, Jan. 31. The chairman of the Board of Cricket Control, Mr. Robertson, stated on his return from Sydney that the board had had a most satisfactory meeting, and there had been no dissension. Those delegates who were not in Adelaide when the first cable was sent to the Marylebone Club were satisfied with the action taken.
The text of the Board of Control’s cable to w the M.C.C. team was as follows: “We, the Australian Board of Control, appreciate your difficulty in dealing with the matter raised in our cable without having seen the actaal play. We unanimously regard bodyline bowling, as adopted in some of the games of f the present tour, as being opposed to the spirit of cricket and dangerous to ’ the players. We are deeply concerned that the ideals of the game shall be protected, and have therefore appointed ’a committee to report on the action necessary to eliminate such bowling from all cricket in Australia as from the beginning of the 1933-34 season. “We will forward a copy of the committee’s recommendations for your consideration, and it is hoped that we will receive your co-operation as to their application in all cricket. We do not consider it is necessary to cancel the remainder of the programme.”
The members of the committee are as follow:—Messrs J. T. Hartigan (Queensf land), representing the Board of Control, W. M. Woodfull, V. Richardson and M. A. Noble.
