S. A. BLACK’S GOOD PERFORMANCE

NEW PLYMOUTH- CLUB’S EVENTS.

The weekly meeting of. the New Plymouth Amateur Athletic Club took place on the Pukekura Park sports ground last night. The best performance of the evening was that'of S. .A,. Black, who; won the. 100 yards from the 2-yard mark in 9 3-55., with a good wind behind him. Results are:—;

440 yards hurdle' championship: F. C. Gilmour 1/R. Boucher 2; time, 625. Gilmour always ha'd the race in safe keeping and won by five or six yards from H. L. Thomson, who was disqualified for knocking down three hurdles. Half-mile cycle: R. L. Reed (20yds.) 1, R. Adlam (35) 2, C. Hawkins (20) 3; time, lm. 10 4-ss. A fine finish, Reed willing by a length, with Hawkins right up third. Senior 10 Oyards: First heat: N. J. Webster (Byds.) 1, G. Taylor (9) 2, S. A. Black (2) 3; time, 9 4-ss. Second heat: J. Kinsella (41yds.) 1, S. G. Dinniss (12) 2, R. Boucher (12) 3; time, 9 4-ss. Final: Black 1, Kinsella 2; Taylor 3; time, 9 3-ss. Black put in a wonderful finishing burst and just beat Kinsella by inches, with Taylor a foot away third. Ladies’ 100 yards: Miss N. Clark (3yds.) I, Miss M. Stevens (5) 2. Miss E. Throwing the javelin: A. J. Thompson (63ft.), 189 ft. 7in„ 1; H. V. Hogg (42ft.), I77ft. TOin.; 2; G- Sullivan (36ft. lOiri.), 177 ft. 6Jin., 3. One-mile run: A. J. Thompson ,(140yds.) 1, W." Wilson (160) 2, M. Radford (100) 3; time, 4m. 26 3-ss. Thompson running very strongly took command with half the journey cbvere’d and went on to win comfortably. Three-mile cycle championship: R. L. Reed T, C.' Hawkins' 2, N. C. Batten 3; time, 7ni. 57 4-ss. All the five competitors took turns at pacing for the greater part of the journey, but Reed was in charge commencing the final circuit. He was hotly challenged by Hawkins and Batten. In a great finish Reed held on to win by a wheel from Hawkins,. with Batten a similar distance further back. High jump: T. Gray, sft. 10jin., 1; H. L.
