Mr. L. C. Jennins, Lepperton, is in the New Plymouth hospital suffering from the effects of a severe attack of influenza.

Captain P. G. Taylor, who acted as copilot with Sir Charles Kingsford Smith in the flight of the Southern Cross across the Tasman Sea last week, left New Plymouth on Wednesday for Australia. Senior-Sergeant S. J. Martin, Wellington South, formerly of New Plymouth, passed through New Plymouth yesterday en route to the north on holiday leave.

Sympathy with the secretary of the board (Mr. C. S. Rennell) and his family in their recent bereavement was expressed by members of the New Plymouth Harbour Board at the monthly meeting yesterday. One of Kihikihi’s very old residents, Mr. Philip Tarrant, died at the Waikato hospital, at the age of 82. He went from Taranaki several years ago to settle at Hamilton, where he followed his occupation as a builder until less than two years ago. Then he and Mrs. Tarrant removed to Kihikihi. Mr. Tarrant is survived by Mrs. Tarrant and a grown-up •family of seven sons and one daughter. A long cortege followed the funeral of Mrs. C.-S. Rennell to Te Henui cemetery yesterday, including members of the Fitzroy Bowling Club and the chairman (Mr. C. E. Bellringer) and representatives of the New Plymouth Harbour Board, of which Mr. Rennell is secretary. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Venerable F. G. Evans, archdeacon emeritus, and Archdeacon G. H. Gavin. There was a large number of wreaths.

The death occurred at New Plymouth yesterday afternoon of Mr. Henry John (Harry) Anthony, aged 58, after a short illness. Mr. Anthony, who was a nephew of Mr. J. W. McDougall, late editor of the Napier Telegraph, was bom in London and came to New Zealand 29 years ago. He was an engineer but health reasons forced him to abandon that profession and latterly he conducted a store in Devon Street east. Before coming to New Plymouth 16 years ago Mr. Anthony resided in Wanganui. He leaves a widow and three children, Mrs. A. Ridge (Otane, Hawke’s Bay) and Messrs. Mark and Henry Anthony (New Plymouth). Mr. Anthony was a foundation member of the Te Henui Lodge of the Masonic Order.
