“MONSTROSITIES” OF ABBEY
SUGGESTION FOR WEEDING OUT.
PARISH CHURCH OF THE EMPIRE.
By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 10 p.m. London, Jan. 17.
The Melboume-ite, the Rev. Irving Benson, says the News-Chronicle, welcomes the recent criticism of Westminster Abbey monuments as voicing what thousands have felt for years—that it is high time to clear out some of the monstrosities and memorials of insignificant people which mar the Abbey. Mr. Benson adds that he hopes a commission will be constituted to consider weeding out and adding a spiritual suggestiveness and a dingified simplicity to the Empire’s parish church.
