AN ASIDE WITH MR. HICKEY.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—lt becomes evident that if Mr. W. E. Hickey’s ambitions were realised, and he was in a position , to represent a district he would open fire by endeavouring to perform a feat that a few others of his kidney are attempting, that is, try to drive a square peg into a round hole. Broadly speaking, in our financial troubles we take our cue from England. In view of’ the fact that some of the best brains in the world’ are being cudgeled to find a way that will solve the financial problems of that country, the best advice any thinking man can offer Mr. Hickey is that he for the time being irnitate the ostrich, or if sand is a scarcity, to substitute his handiest milk-bucket. It must be obvious to all that if exchange were raised to the extent Mr. Hickey advocates, the result would be disastrous' not only to the primary producers but to the remainder of the community.—l am, etc., R.M.
