SUNDAY SCHOOL BREAKING-UP.
The annual tea and prize-giving in connection with St. Mark’s Anglican Sunday school, Kaponga, took place on Monday evening in the Parish Hall, when about 50 children attended. The children, were looked after by Mesdames T .T. Jones, F. W. Fallows and E. Boyle and Miss I. Melville. After tea the children adjourned to the church grounds for games. Upon re-assembling in the hall they were briefly addressed by the vicar (the Rev. A. J. Famell) before they were given their prizes. Mr. Famell thanked the superintendent (Miss I. Melville) and her assistants for their work during the past’ year, and the parents and those who had provided the tea for the children that evening. On behalf of the superintendent he asked Misses Doreen Burt and Sadie Bertie (the assistants) to accept a prayer book each as acknowledgement of her personal appreciation of their services. The vicar presented to Miss Melville from her scholars and their parents a rose bowl with their good wishes.

Lesley Hessell, Joan Brewer, Doris McCook, Lorna McCook, Eunice Mellow, Jean Arnold, „ Phyllis Gardner, Flora Gardner, Iris Anderson, Anne Kemp, June Thurston; boys, Geoffrey Fallows, Maurice Gordge, Warren Gordge, Peter Bertie, George Gordge, Tom Abbott, Clutha Libeau, Ron Knight, Brian Abbott, lan Brewer, lan Burt, Leo Carrington, Follett Carrington, Fred Arnold, Jim Harper. , On the eve of her approaching marriage Miss Myrtle Evans, organist at the Methodist Sunday school, was presented by the teachers and pupils with a crystal salad bowl and pepper and salt shaker. The presentation was made on Sunday by the superintendent (Mr. N. C. Davies), who referred to the many years of splendid service given by Miss Evans. ( A competition under the auspices of the Christmas carnival committee was won by Mr. R. Noonan, who estimated the length of string at 24 yards 9 inches, the actual length being 24 yards 2 inches. The first match in the Campbell Cup competition for A croquet players was played at Kaponga on Tuesday, when the local team defeated Okaiawa by 52 to 25. -The scores, Kaponga names first, are: Mesdames Dawson and Tait 26 v. Mesdames Penny and Wards 7, Mesdames Brewer and Tattersall 26 v. Mesdames Williams and Johnstone 18. The funeral of Mrs. Isabella Law at Kaponga was attended by residents from all over the district. The Rev. J. R. Nelson conducted the services. The pallbearers were three sons, Messrs. Robert James and John Law, and three sons-in-law, Messrs. N. Cleland, A. Collins and W. T. McKay.
