Eight members of the Patea Freezing Workers’ Union last week received notification that, having failed to accept jobs which were offered to them, they must be struck off the roll of relief workers. A deputation on behalf of these men waited on the Patea Unemployment Relief Committee pointing out that the Act was not intended by the Government to be used in this manner; the Patea committee resolved to communicate with the Unemployment Board. As a result the men have been reinstated and are receiving work along with others.

The Mokoia cricket team .visited Mere Mere for a friendly match,’ the visitors being the victors by 103 runs to 45. Bosely made 62 for Mokoia. Hardwick (16) and W. Geary (10) were the chief scorers for Mere Mere. The home team had a second innings, making 65 (W. Geary 24, J. Bloor 22)/ so escaping an innings defeat by a very narrow margin.

One or two residents of Hawera saw an unusual sight on Tuesday night and one that must have puzzled them.
