Taking advantage of the favourable weather experienced during the winter, farmers on the higher levels cleared large areas of land. Much of this has since been prepared for swedes, arid extensive areas may be seen on most holdings. If good strikes are obtained, there should be an abundance of winter feed, as, in addition, more. hay and ensilage has also been harvested. Messrs. J. T. Julian and Son have completed the bridge over Stony River on the Mangatiti Road. Though of wood, the new structure is very substantial, and should serve the needs of the settlers for many years.
