SPLENDID SPORT AT PARK

NEW PLYMOUTH ATHLETICS. RESULTS OF EVENING MEETING. Fine fields and excellent sport generally characterised the weekly meeting of the New Plymouth Amateur Athletic Club on the Pukekura Park sportsground last evening. All the events were contested by splendid fields and the finishes in all cases were good. Following are the results: — 220 yards hurdles: H. F. Fookes 18yds 1, H. L. Thomson 14yds 2, S. G. Dinniss 21yds 3; time, 27 2-ss. Fookes was first into the straight and, fencing better than his opponents, won by about three yards. Half-mile cycle: V. Ambury 50yds 1, C. Hawkins 30yds 2, N. C. Batten 30yds

3; time, Im. 6 2-ss. Ambury received a great start and led all the way. Ladies’ 120 yards: Miss D. Brown 15yds 1, Miss N. Clarke syds 2, Miss B. Bigwood 11yds 3; time, 13 l-ss. Though Miss Clarke made a game effort she could not reach Miss Brown, who won by two yards. Senior 220 yards:—First heat: J. Kinsella 16yds 1, N. Webster 18yds 2, S. A. Black scr 3; time, 22 l-ss. Second heat: G. Sullivan 17yds 1, J. A. Pankhurst 17yds 2, W. Taylor 17yds 3; time, 22 2-ss. Final: J. Kinsella 1, J. A. Pankhurst 2, S. A. Black 3; time, 22 l-ss. Kinsella, running strongly, always had the race in safe keeping. Black appeared likely coming into the straight but could make no impression in the run home. ' _ . , Broad jump: S. G. Radford and Broad, paced each other for the greater part of the journey but then the former went away to win by 100 yards. Saddler beat Broad by inches for second. Throwing the javelin: H. V..
