MEETING OF COMMITTEE.The Central School Committee, . New Plymouth, met recently, Mr. F. A. Coleman presiding. There were also present. Messrs. J. O, Turner, F. S. Nicholson, E. W. Hodder, W. H.. Huggett, H. W. Broad, A. Dunkley, F. Potter, A. Feakins (hon. sec.) and D. P. Evans (headmaster). The headmaster reported: The roll . number for the week ending on Novem-
ber 11 was boys 381, girls 399, total 750; admitted during four weeks’ period, 3, 4,7; withdrawn during four weeks’ period, 5,2, 7; roll number at December 9, 379, 401, 780; average attendance, 362.4, 377.5, 739.9; per centage of ■ attendances, 94.8; number' of roll at corresponding period in 1931, 448, 449, 897. It would be seen that the attendance had been quite satisfactory. But for slignt epidemics of chicken-pox and whooping cough the percentage would have reached 96. The highest percentage in any week of the above-named period was 95.8. In the classes up to Form 1, or Standard V. a creditable degree of efficiency was shown, only a small percentagge of the pupils having failed to gain direct promotion or promotion on trial. The committed placed on record its appreciation of the excellent results obtained at the proficiency examinations. Correspondence was read from the Education Board notifying staff changes. Reports were received from the various sub-commitees and adopted.
