ALBERT SCHOOL CONCERT

SUCCESS OF “CINDERELLA.” The prize giving and annual breakup was held in the Albert School on Friday evening. Other years it took the form of a picnic, sports, but this year, the children gave the district an unexpected treat by staging “Cinderella” and other amusing items, which did them much credit. The concert opened with a scene from “Alive in Wonderland,” “The Mad Tea Party,” which caused much laughter. The characters were Brinea Munt (Mad Hatter), Leslie Jordan (March Hare), Katie Hall (Alice in Wonderland) and Reg Jordan (Door Mouse). All were very, good. v Then came “Cinderella” with its Princes and fairies with their pretty frocks which were made and designed by Mrs. Burrows, who assisted Miss Olsen in preparing the costumes. Miss Jordan also assisted. Sylvia Monk as Cinderella took the part excellently, her dress of white satin and diamante being striking. Thelma Jordan (apricot satin) and Alice Hall (champagne georgette) as the Ugly Sisters were splendid. As the Fairy Godmother, Joy Burrows was very pleasing, her red satin dress with black lace and conical hat gave her a witch-like appearance. Ivan. Jordan as an Eastern Prince Charming took his part exceedingly well. Arthur Jordan as Sir Rodger, in Eastern costume, was very good, while Dave Schnider as Sir Haliday was quite as good. Then came Leslie Thomason, who caused much amusement in carring Cinderella’s slipper around.

The fairies were Pat Burrows (apricot), Maudie Schnider . (lemon), Elsie Jordan (blue), Katie Hall (rose), Vahnaire Burrows (white), Kathie Jordan (pink). All were trained with care and were very effective in their dances. Other items in the programme were: Deep in the Forest, the three Burrows girls; recitation, Geoffry Hall, Peter Pratt; Bunny Rabbit, Bernard Schnider; The Fairies’ House,. Hilton Clough and Cathie Jordan.

The play was an outstanding success. Mr. Jordan then presented the prizes, each child receiving a book. Ivan Jordan received his proficiency certificate and a book from his teacher (Miss Olson). At the conclusion of the prizegiving Ivan Jordan on behalf of the children of the school presented Miss Olson with a novel scent spray and a bottle of lavender, with their good

wishes. Miss Olson thanked the children, the committee, Mrs. Burrows, Miss Jordan and all who had assisted her. The children then cheered the teacher and sang “For she’s a jolly good fellow” and the National Anthem. After the performance the adults had several dances to music supplied by Mr. Jim Shoemark. Supper was afterwards served by the ladies. Most of the farmers of the district are busy haymaking and are enjoying ideal weather for the work. Mesdames Clough and Thomason, who have been ill, are convalescing.
