EVANS BAY ACCIDENT.

Wellington, Dec. 17. Two schoolboys, Arthur Ernest Parker of 4 Tulley Street, and Robin Ae kins, of 18 Kilbirnie Terrace, came within an ace of being drowned yesterday morning when their canoe capsizedlm | rough water in Evans Bay. Although Aekins was in need of respiration when picked up, neither he no his companion suffered any ill-effects from their experience. The two boys set off at i .30 a.m. in 10-foot canvas canoe built by and his brother, and paddled from the Seatoun Road beach across to the EvanBay power station. The canoe leaked slightly, and , when returning at .8.40 a.m. across the bay to the bathing sheds the sea was so rough that the boat cansized. The shouts of the boys, who started to ’swim to the sheds at Evans 'Bay, were heard by Mr. Henry Blai, of the Power Station staff, and Mr. M. Summers, at his garage. Parker swam about 800 yards to a raft, and was picked up, and Aekins was about 100 yards from the raft when he was picked up. Mr C. S. Headland had put out With the crew of the launch Stella, and not finding the boys, took on board Mr. George Richardson, Of the power station staff who had set out to swim toward the boys. After being brought to shore the boys were taken to the Evans Bay bathing sheds, and later to their re- ' spective homes.
