CONCERT BY S.A. BOYS
GOOD PROGRAMME AT ELTHAM.. An excellent concert was presented at the Eltham Town Hall on Monday evening by the Eltham Salvation Army Boys’ Home party. Numerous and varied items consisting of band numbers, songs, recitations, tableaux and drill were given by the boys, the programme requiring considerable care and attention in its preparation. An item of special merit was a demonstration of feats of strength by Harry Perry and three Eltham young men- They performed several gymnastic feats requiring considerable strength with apparent ease, not the least being the bending of small bars of iron. -The band items were a distinct credit to the boys and to Major Perry, who had tutored them. Miss Jby Wilkinson presented elocutionary numbers, these being .heartily encored. The Mayor (Mr. I. J. Bridger) presided and expressed pleasure at the revival of the annual concert after the .lapse of Several years. He stressed the value and importance of the institution to the district and urged upon citizens .the necessity for its support. He specially mentioned the good Work of Major Perry in the formation Of the boys’ band.- The officer had obtained many old instruments practically from the scrap heap, and had reconditioned them in a wonderful manner. The playing of the boys was a credit to Major Perry. . • During the evening the prizes won by the boys were presented by Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., who complimented the boys on their good work. Among the prizewinners were G. Young, winner of the gold medal for the best boy of the school, and W. Nichol, winner of the silver medal for the runner-up.
