H.M. REFORMATORY.

ENTERTAINMENT BY ROTARIANS.

Last evening representatives of the Hawera Rotary Club entertained - the inmates of H.M. Reformatory. Rotarian p. .O. Veale gave an address on microbes. in relation to disease. Rotarian E. M. Bardsley showed some interesting motion pictures, and Rotarian. A. E. Morris contributed songs. Mr. P. E. Stainton, Who presided, took occasion to refer to the fine educational work done during the year at the institution by Mr. Oscar Johnstone, who, in acknowledging, said that his was a labour of love and the results achieved in .fitting inmates to improve their positions later in life provided , full compensation for any work involved. - . Mr. Stainton also conveyed the thanks of the Prisons. Department to the New Plymouth Rotary Club for . the continued interest taken in the welfare of the men. The president (Rotarian ,T. C. List) said that but for the. assistance given by the head of the institution (Mr. Dineen) and Mr. Stainton himself, the club’s efforts to brighten the lives and help the men could not ..have been very successful. He described Mr. Dineen as one possessing a “great heart” and doing a difficult job in a way that . redounded to his credit and the benefit of the whole community. Cheers were heartily given Mr. Dineen . and Mr. Stainton. President W. J. Bright, of Hawera, said he felt .it. was a privilege to help in - the fine, social ..work the New Plymouth Club was doing.
