FOUND DROWNED IN RIVER
FATALITY AT WAITOTARA. MR. E. SIMMONDS’ DEATH. While trawling in the Waitotara River on Sunday morning with a party of three, Mr. Eric Simmonds, aged 30, of Wanganui, was drowned. It ia reported that he appeared to have a seizure, and in spite of the fact that he was a strong swimmer, disappeared from view. . His body had not been found at a lite hour last night. Mr. Simmonds’ parents reside in Christchurch. Mr. E. J. Durie, of Wanganui, who was a member of the party, said that they were between the Waitotara township and the heads at the mouth of the river. Simmonds was dragging • the net with them when he disappeared. He had lived in Wanganui for several years and was a member of the staff ; of the Farmers’ Co-operative Meat Company. The fatality occurred at about-9.30 a.m.
