Mr. F. S. Johns returned to New Plymouth last night after an extended trip abroad. The Duke of York is suffering from a cold and is confined to his room by doctor’s orders, the British Official Wireless reports. Mr. A. Leslie, M.R.C.V.S., veterinarian at Lincoln College, has been awarded the diploma of a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, London, for a thesis on research into the diseases of sheep in Canterbury, states a Christchurch Press Association message. The funeral of the late Mr. Alfred Weller took place at the Te Henui Cemetery yesterday morning, the Rev. W. S. C. Stephens conducting the service. The members of the family were Messrs A. E. and B. B. Weller (sons), H. J. Johnstone and M. J. Armstrong (sons-in-law) and Masters Johnstone and Armstrong (grandsons) and the pall-bearers were Messrs T. C. List, H. E. Carey, D. F. Saxton, J. Austin, A. Bowie and T. Charters. There were a number of beautiful floral tributes. Reference to the services of Mr. Alfred Gray, a Hawera teacher who is retiring after 35 years of teaching service was made by the Taranaki Education Board at its meeting yesterday. Mr. Gray began his teaching service at the CentraL school, New Plymouth, undc'r Mr. H. Dempsey in 1897, and was at the Central school for several years. The board passed a motion expressing its appreciation of the long and efficient service rendered by Mr. Gray in the Taranaki district and wished him every success in his retirement.
