KAIMATA DISTRICT NEWS

TENNIS ACTIVITIES AND GENERAL. A special meeting of the Kaimata Tennis Club was held at the Kaimata school on Monday. A well-attended meeting was presided over by Mr. G. Gibbins. The financial statement presented, by the secretary (Miss E. Klenner) disclosed a credit balance of a few pounds. The ball held by the dub on the evening of the opening day showed a credit The president asked the members to give the committee all the support possible in the endeavour to repay the loan from the Kaimata Sports Club as soon as possible. It was decided to call a meeting of lady, members to arrange the catering for any functions decided upon by the committee, which would arrange and control all social functions to raise funds for the club. A vote of thanks was accorded those members who donated the prize for the guessing competition. Special general meetings could be called, it was decided, by a quorum of the committee or by a petition signed by twelve financial members.

Two teams will be picked by the club captain and the president to play each other at an. early date, the players to be handicapped. Miss E. Dobson gave notice to move as an amendment to the rules that members be allowed to challenge anywhere on the ladder up to the twelfth place, to challenge two places above up to the fifth place and thereafter to challenge one place above. It was decided that no ladder matches be played before December 12 in order to give members an opportunity to practice. A guessing competition run by the tennis club was won by Mr. T. Deane and a competition sponsored by the Kal- - Basketball Club was won by Mr. D. Dobson. The Monte Carlo dance at the tennis ball was won by Miss Jordan and partner and the “lucky spot” by Miss E. Klenner and Mr. Grigg. There is an outbreak of mumps in the district and several children and some adults have contracted the complaint. The school children have completed their examinations and are preparing for their concert, which is to be held before the holidays. Mrs. W. Spray, who has been convalescing after her illness, has returned home. Mrs. I. V. Buchanan, who is in a New Plymouth private hospital, is expected home at the end of the week. Mrs. C. England, who has been indisposed for some days, is progressing satisfactorily. Miss J. Sellars, who has been the guest of Mrs. Mackie, Junction Road, has returned to Wellington. Mrs. B.
