Mips Audre Eberlet returned on Monday night from Canterbury College.

Miss E. Andrew's has returned from Wellington. Mrs. W. Kelly, Awakino, was a visitor to New Plymouth during the week-end. Mrs. C. Taylor has returned from a holiday spent at the Chateau Tongariro. Mrs. Reed, who has been visiting New Plymouth, left yesterday for Wanganui. Miss D. Baker was a visitor to Eltham for the week-end. Miss Devenish has returned from a trip to Auckland.

Mrs. G. Millar and Miss M. Sladden will motor to Marton to-day for the Sladden-Halse wedding. Miss Helen Bullock is to return tonight from a holiday spent at Wellington and Wanganui. Mrs. Cyril Hart, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Nisbet Smith, returned to Stratford on Monday. . Miss Mary Hine returned from Canterbury College on Monday night to spend the vacation with her parents. Miss Mona Kelly, Awakino, was a visitor to New. Plymouth for a few days before going on to Patea. Mrs. Alan Waters, who has been the guest of Mrs. Crawford, is to return to Nelson to-day. Mrs. L. Hope, Wellington, is a guest of Mrs. S. F. Arden, Morley Street. She will travel to Auckland on Monday. The final of the Yankee bridge tournament was played at the Taranaki Women’s Club on Thursday and was won by Mrs. I. W. B. Roy and Mrs. R. T. McQuade, the runners-up being Mrs. Franklin White and Mrs. L. Hamilton. Some of next year’s English debutantes will be brought out at charity balls this winter. Already this decision on the part of. several women with debutante daughters has provided something of a sensation for the newly-opened “Little Season.” The unwritten law of giving a private ball or choosing an exclusive Hunt Ball for a young girl’s debut will thus be broken, and the number of hostesses who intend to economise on the bringing-out of their daughters is likely to grow as the season advances. A travelling theatre, with a company of 30 student actors, is moving from town in the north of Spain, giving free performances of classical Spanish plays. Two motor-buses and two motor-trucks are used to convey the actors and properties, and the stage is usually erected in the old-world setting of some typical “plaza” or square.
