PERSONAL AND GENERAL ITEMS.

The primers at the Inglewood primary school on Friday afternoon held a penny concert at which many adults were present: During the concert reference was made to the impending departure of Nliss F. Evans, who for several years has been head infant mistress. On behalf of the children she was presented with a fountain pen by little Daphne Lowden. A bridge evening was held at the residence of the headmaster, Mr. C. A. McKinney, on Monday in honour of .Miss Evans, the teachers and several friends being present. Mr. McKinney referred in appreciative terms to the excellent work done by Miss Evans in her profession and to the high regard in which she was held by her associates. On behalf of the teachers he asked Miss Evans to accept a picture executed in butterfly wings to remind her of her happy associations in Inglewood. The residents of Durham Road gathered in the schoolroom bn Monday to farewell Mr. and Mrs. Officer, who have been residents of the district for many years. Musical items were interspersed with dances. Those contributing to the programme were Mrs. Oakshott (songs?, Miss M. McEwen (song), Mr. W. J. Smith (song), Mr. Norman Dodunski (recitation), Mr. McAllister (violin solos). The accompaniments were played by Mrs. Bartram, who also was at the piano for community singing led by Mr. Smith. Mr. T. Wood was chairman, and called upon Mr. Robert Stuart, chairman of the Inglewood County Council, to make the presentation. Mr. Stuart said his personal friendship with, the guests of the evening extended over 20 years, during which time he had constantly held Mr. and Mrs. Officer in the highest respect and affection. Their departure was a serious loss to Durham Road. On behalf of those assembled Mr. Stuart asked Mr. and Mrs. Officer to accept an eiderdown quilt to perpetuate the memory of the happy associations they had enjoyed during their long residence on Durham Road. The Rev. R. S. Keenan, on behalf of the Presbyterian community, paid a tribute to the fine qualities of the Officer family. Musical honours were given at the conclusion of Mr. Officer’s reply. Arrangements for the opening of the Inglewood Cycle Club’s track season were materially advanced at an executive meeting of the club on Monday night. It was decided to commence with an open sports meeting on January 5, at which four open cycle races would be contested, including the New Year Handicap for a silver cup and three cash prizes. Young riders would be catered for with two races, half and one mile, the age limit being 18 years. It was decided to hold two open running events, 100 vards and 220 yards, also married and single ladies’ races and children’s races.
