MAN SHOT IN LEG

WATCHMAN USES REVOLVER. CHARGE OF THEFT LAID. Abel Tasman Dyer, a nightwatchman, after pursuing an alleged thief at Redfern, Sydney, recently, drew his revolver and fired two shots, the second hitting the man in the leg and inflicting a flesh wound. The man’s injury was not serious, and after being treated at hosDital, he was arrested and charged with stealing. Mr. Dyer, who is employed by various firms in Darlington and Redfern to watch their premises by night, was doing some business at Redfern, about 3 p.m. He left his car standing in the street for a few minutes, and on returning found a man leaning into the car. The man, it was alleged, ran away as soon as he saw Mr. Dyer, taking with him a rug out of the car. The man was followed by Mr. Dyer, who called upon him to stop, but the man kept on running. Mr. Dyer drew his revolver and fired a shot. Even this had no effect on the man, who continued- to run as hard as he could. Mr. Dyer fired another shot, and the bullet struck the man above the ankle. The man immediately dropped to the ground and Mr. Dyer held him until the arrival of the two detectives.
