OAKS DAY AT RICCARTON

REVIEW OF TO-DAY’S FIELDS

SILVER SCORN’S GOOD PROSPECTS. KOROKIO HAS HER CHANCE. (By "Hurry On.”) The racing carnival at Riccarton will be continued to-day, when the principal events to be decided are the Oaks and the : Jockey Club mile. The first event is the. BORT COOPER HURDLES.

On first day’s form the issue would appear to lie between the ' three' topweights, and Hounslow will probably be SPRING NURSERY HANDICAP. Of £l5O. Five furlongs. '

Southd&wn is the form horse here, but should Pegged Exchange take it into his head to act up to his track gallops he might prove hard to dispose of. OTAIO PLATE. Of £l5O. One mile and a quarter.

Red Sun scored so impressively on Saturday that he should again go well. Some Toff is improving and will see the distance right, out. Pahu, Muff and Full Ma-rk all have chances, and Tout le Mond might show what.he is capable of. A likely trio are Red Sun, Some Toff and Tout le Mond.

JOCKEY (StUB HANDICAP. Of £3OO. One mile.

Though not big, this field is a good one. Autopay’s good fourth in the Epsom at Randwick will not be forgotten, while Cricket Bat should be all the better for his race on Monday. Korokio has a great chance and would only have to. reproduce her Waverley form to be very hard to beat. Arrow Lad is running into form and is due any .time now... He won this race last year. All the others, Jaloux, Ranelagh, Rational ■ 11., Irish Lancer and Azalea, have chances, but indications point to Korokio, Autopay and Arrow Lad being prominent.

NtEW ZEALAND OAKS. Of £4OO. One mile and'a half.

This race should see Silver Steorn a warm favourite, but La Moderne’s showing in'the Derby, was good and she may prove capable of extending the Silverado filly. .

"■ ASHLEY HANDICAP. Of £l5O. One mile.

If Irish Lancer is reserved for "'this race he would-carry good support, but in his possible absence three winners of the first two days in Worship, Shamfight and Argentic will carry the confidence of the public.

This race should suit Hurlingham. Most opposition would appear to be likely to come from Tippling and Some Toff.

OWNERSHIP OF EARTHQUAKE.

APPEAL JUDGES’ DECISION.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.

. Christchurch, Last Night. The appeal judges, Mr. George Gould, Sir Charles Clifford and Mr. A. T. Donnelly, have delivered judgment in the appeal by the executive committee of the Racing Conference against th© decision of the Greymouth District Committee in connection with the ownership of the horse Earthquake. The committee’s decision was that the evidence as to the ownership of Earthquake disclosed grave doubts, but the committee was of the opinion that it was not sufficiently conclusive to prove the present owner of the horse to be other than Mrs. M. M. Turley, but that nevertheless contradictory statements made by Fenton deserve severe caution.

The judges directed that the matter should be referred back. to the Greymouth District Committee for re-hear-ing and further consideration of ;Rule 384 (•!) (e). The judges continue: “We direct the Greymouth District Committee to hear and determine whether any person who is now or has at any time been the registered owner of Earthquake has committed any offence against the Rules of Racing.”
