Baroscope was fourth.

TWO SURPRISE RESULTS LIMEEN AND KING’S ARCHER. MOST WINNERS WELL , BACKED. (By Wire—Special to News.) Auckland, Last Night. Keen racing was witnessed on the concluding day of the Auckland Racing Club’s spring meeting at Ellerslie today. Three favourites were successful,

land with the exception of Limeen and King’s Archer, who returned doublefigure dividends, the winners were all well supported. The consistent Carfex repeated Ills first day’s success in the Normanby Handicap, winning well at the end after having to withstand a strong challenge from Jonathan over the last furlong. Jonathan did not have the best of the running as he was outside a couple of horses most of the way and had to make a big run. Catch ’Em finished on to get third, but Holly Lu tired in the last furlong after making all the pace.

ROYAL VISITOR IN FORM.

Royal Visitor was favourite for the Manukau Hurdles, and after waiting on Patutahi and Claremore until reaching the straight he came on to win handsomely. He was the best seasoned horse in the field and his condition stood to him when ho was asked for a final effort. Claremore pulled up lame, while Lucess, Luminary and Advance Camp all ran below form.

GOLDEN WINGS WINS WELL.

In spite of the fact that he drew No. 9 at the barrier Tea Trader was preferred to Golden Wings in the Epsom Handicap, but he failed to gain a place. Golden Wings hopped out smartly from No. 1, and although Greek Gold and Tea Trader kept him at it until reaching the straight, he came on to win. well from Soloist, who dime from a good way back to cub the tiring Greek Gold out of third position. Golden Wings again claimed a 51b allowance; but his win was full of merit. Tea Trader stopped at the finish but need not be discredited because he went very fast early and had to travel on the outside.

LIMEEN’S SURPRISE.

Limeen was responsible for a surprise in winning the King Edward Memorial Handicap. She was wide out behind Great Emblem, Hunting Cry, Flying Prince, Chromadyno, Speedmint and Lord Vai entering the straight, and it was only by a good finishing effort that she beat Speedmint, whose rider appeared to be hampered in the last 20 yards. Hunting Cry ran a great race under his big weight. He was moved up sharply on the outside five furlongs from home, and it did not appear to be o, good policy to have him in front at the foot of the straight. Chromadync ran a good race to get fourth, and Antique finished fast from the rear into fifth position. Gibraltar again failed badly.

ABSENT SCORES AGAIN.

Form worked out well in the Ouehuiiga Steeplechase when Absent and Neil finished first and second. Absent waited in behind for about two miles and then pulled to the front, never afterwards being headed. John Bull, who got his tongue over the bit, raced prominently for over two miles, when he stopped badly and was pulled up.

MIDIAN’S MUSKET STAKES.

Midian was the popular fancy for the Musket Stakes and, jumping out smartly from No. 1, he was always in front, although Wait and See and Alignment followed him closely to the 1 distance, when they tired. Gay Sheila and Gay Seton stayed on to fill the minor places. Alignment, who is a 'full brother to Croupier, shaped really well in his first start and should be worth following.

MOONFLEET PAYS GOOD PRICE.

Moonfleet was successful at a good price in the Hobson Handicap. He waited in behind Lord Aintree until reaching the straight, and then beat him home rather comfortably. Woodfull came from a fait way back in the middle stages to get third, just ahead of Gay Marigold and Prolyxo. The lastnamed appeared to be a certain placegetter at the distance but failed irr the last furlong. Puss Moth was well placed for about five furlongs, but Pelting and Lucidus were never closer than the middle of the field after failing to get good positions early. KING’S ARCHER’S GOOD FINISH. Gold Trail was favourite for the Liverpool Handicap, but she had to strike her colours to King’s Archer, who started ‘at double figures. King’s Archer shot to the front in the straight after following Llanore, and just stalled off Gold Trail, who came from second to last with an exceptionally good run bn the outside. It appeared aS if Gold Trail would have won if she had made her effort just a little earlier. High Comedy and Baroscope both ran fair races, but the others were well beaten, WHANGAREI REHANDICAPS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Rehandicaps for the Whangarei races are:— Huanui Hurdles: Prince of Orange, 131 b, making 9.13. Whangarei Cup: King’s Archer, 21b, making 9.2; Royal Artist, 81b, making 9.5.
