0E VALERA’S OPPOSITION

CAMPAIGN BY COSGRAVE

STORMY MEETING AT CORK

hall rushed by crowd

POLICE COUNTER-CHARGE

Hr Telegraph—Pres® A«sn.—Copyright. London, November 6.

Special precautions were taken to prevent disorder at a Cork meeting addressed by Mr. W. T. Cosgrave, the exPresident. The police formed a bodyguard. As Mr. Cosgrave -was entering the hall a woman evaded the cordon and rushed up, shaking Her fist at Mr. Cosgrave and shouting: “Murderer!”

Later 100 men armed with sticks and stones charged the hall. The police, drawing their batons, counter charged and captured most of the weapons and arrested two men. Subsequently a woman attempted to rush the building, but meanwhile members of the Cosgraveite White Army, protecting the entrances, ejected the interrupter. Mr. Cosgrave declared that Mr.' de Valera’s ridiculous claims held the country up to derision and had resulted in international dishonour.

Mr. Patrick Hogan, the ex-Minister of Agriculture, declared that Mr. de Valera’s demand for £400,000,000 was justifiable only if the Free State army was camped on Trafalgar Square or the navy bombarded London Bridge.
