Bruce, Resident Australian Minister, within 48 hours with a view to pressing for intervention by the British Government. Nevertheless the suggestion for a reduction in South American imports comes at an unfortunate moment, because the carcases of mutton and lamb at present afloat aggregate: Australian, 725,000 (compared with 555,000 this time last year); New Zealand,- 390,000 (compared with 275,000); River Plate, ‘ 115,000 (239,000). South America has already reduced her past quarter’s shipments by 40 per cent. The lamb prices at present are: New Zealand, 5Jd (compared with Sid in October last year), and Australian 4|d (8d). APPEAL MADE BY GRAZIERS LIMITATION OF SUPPLIES MOVEMENT. IN AUSTRALIA Rec. 12.5 a.m. Melbourne, Oct. 25. A deputation of New South Wales and Victorian graziers and meat exporters directed the attention of the Federal Minister of Commerce (Mr. Stewart) to the grave condition of the British meat market With continuous glutting of supplies. The fear was expressed that if South American shipments of mutton and lamb continued to be heavy to December 31 the present lamb export season would be disastrous. The deputation urged that representations should be made to the New Zealand Government, the British Government and the Argentine with a view to arranging an allround limitation of shipments. Mr. Stewart replied that the Ministry was alive to the danger and the whole position nad been placed before the British Government through Mr. S. M. Bruce, Resident Commonwealth Minister in London.
