SOLO FLIGHT BY WOMAN
WELLINGTON-NEW PLYMOUTH
SECOND STAGE OF LONG JOURNEY.
MISS D. PATERSON, INVERCARGILL.
A solo flight from Wellington to New Plymouth will be made by Miss Dorothy Paterson, the only woman pilot in Otago and Southland, if th© weather is suitable to-day. The flight will be in continuation of a journey from Invercargill which will possibly be carried as far as Auckland. . . Miss Paterson, who is a member of the Southland Aero Club, left Invercargill on Thursday accompanied by another pilot and made the trip to Wellington in the one day. She intended to fly solo from Wellington to New P ymouth yesterday, leaving her companion at Wellington, but the weather prevented the trip being made, according to advice received at New Plymouth las night. When telephoning to friends at New Plymouth last night Miss Paterson stated she would make the flight to-day, leaving Wellington at 9 a.m., provided the weather permitted. Several long solo trips have been made by Miss Paterson and she has had her share of adventure in the air. She began a flight from Invercargill to Wellington on a previous occasion, in company with another pilot, but reached only as far as Kaikoura. There the plane was blown out to sea for a considerable distance and the fliers deemed it safer to return on their tracks in view of the conditions.
