NEW DUNEDIN POST OFFICE
DEPUTATION URGES BUILDING.
- PRIME MINISTER’S ANSWER.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A deputation of Dunedin commercial and business interests waited on the Prime Minister to-day to urge the immediate erection of the new post office at Dunedin. The Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes said the Government had been very anxious to carry on the work, but that was precluded by the financial conditions, the Government being faced with the necessity of balancing the Budget. The Government’s desire was to proceed with the work as soon as possible, but until they saw the financial outlook a little clearer they did not feel justified in proceeding with such a large expenditure. It was not the Government’s deeire to postpone the work indefinitely. Mr. Forbes suggested it was not imressonable to ask the Dunedin people to carry on • little longer with the present post effice facilities until conditions improved. He gave 'the assurance that no other fefcetan" rial Government building work won’t W given precedence over the Dunedin po®» office contract. . ; C . This assurance was greeted with saw* faction by the deputation.
