St. Johns, Aug. 9.
Seven hundred Irishmen, recalled by the Minister of Defence, sail from Canada on Sunday for Ireland, according to a statement on Tuesday by Vincent Boyle, a member of the party.
“All of us,” he said, “served with th® Republican Aripy and were forced to leave Ireland when Mr. Cosgrave came into power. We differed from him in our political views.” He added that 1000 men had been recalled by the de Valera Government and were pouring into Ireland from all parts of the world. “Trouble is brewing in Ulster,” said Mr. Boyle. '“They are letting me go back to my country to fight. The Defence Minister has sent up transportation to Ireland and 100 dollars each.”
Mr. Boyle claimed that he came to Canada with a party of seven who broke out of gaol five years ago.
Dan Malone, held at Toronto on a charge of vagrancy in connection with an alleged plan to assassinate Mr. J. H. Thomas, is a member of the party, Mr. Boyle said. “A complete fabrication,” the heads of the Irish Free State delegation to the Ottawa Conference declared after reading Mr. Boyle’s ptatement. “Mr. Boyle is unknown and in addition wo have no money for that sort of thing.” The Times’ Dublin correspondent says that it is understood that Dr. J. Ryan’s recall from Ottawa is due to the necessity of supervising measures for relieving farmers, whoso condition has gone from bad to worse owing to the tariffs. They are faced with stark ruin. ' Trade is dead and every day lessens the chance of revival. Everybody recognises this fully, but nobody lifts a finger to end it.
