Tn a bright, open game the Otago Rugby representatives defeated Auckland to-day by 17 to 5 before an attendance of 0000. The Otago forwards won the match, outclassing the visitors, who preferred loose work to the tight, in which Otago excelled. It was a case of tight against loose, and the tight won. The Otago backs played great football. i ~ McSkimming was the idol of tne crowd. Proctor was in good form, with Fookes, Bathgate and Simon linking up perfectly. Jamieson and Nelson shone in the Auckland pack, and Caughey played well in the backs, who did not get many chances. Dannevirke at Rugby to-day successfully emerged from the third Bebbington Shield challenge, defeating Bush in a game which was mostly confined to the forwards by nine to three. Tries for the winners were scored by McKay, Cochrane and Grant, for Bush Mabey kicked a penalty goal.
