TELLING OF FORTUNES
AUSTRALIAN COMPLAINTS. "CAUSING DOMESTIC TROUBLE.” At the Police Court at Albury, .New South Wales, lately, a man was charged with pretending to tell fortunes to deceive and impose upon a police officer. The police stated that numerous complaints had been received that people were engaged in fortune-telling, leading to domestic trouble. One woman was told that she would be a widow in six months, and another was informed that her husband was going out with a dark woman. A police inspector said fortune-telling had caused considerable trouble in many homes, and, with the assistance of the Bench, the police were determined to stop it. The magistrate said he would give the defendant the benefit of the provisions of the Crimes Act and bind him oyer in his own recognisance of £2O to be of good behaviour for 12 months.
