STRATFORD P.W.M.U. MEETING.

Organised by the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union, an enjoyable afternoon was spent on Tuesday in St. Andrew’s Hall, Stratford. Mrs. Thomson (Mayoress) presided and ibrielly referred to the work the women oi New Zealand were doing in helping the missionaries in tho New Hebrides, China, India and among the Maoris. The annual function gave each member of the Presbyterian • Church an opportunity or donating toward the work and stimulating a missionary interest. In welcoming Mrs. Hugo (president of the P.W.M.U.), Mrs. Thomson presented her with a bouquet of autumn foliage. Mrs. Hugo thanked all for her kind welcome and hoped soon to take up her work for the church. . . Dr. W. P. P. Gordon was to have spoken • on the League of Nations but owing to a bereavement was unable to do so. A vote of sympathy with Dr. Gordon was passed. t _ Miss Hoole sang a solo and Misb Rodgers played two violin solos. Mrs. R. Masters was accompanist. Miss Corrigan, Hawera, spoke on the League of Nations. The P.W.M.U. members expressed appreciation of her coming at such short notice. Mrs. Thomson thanked Miss Corrigan for her address and presented her with a posy of violets and maidenhair fern. Amomr those present were Mesdames Thomson, Hugo, McGregor, Stephenson, Allen, Nowell, Young, Taylor, Morrison, Wickham, Cooper, Masters, Smart, Ross, Anderson, Bremner, McCluggage, Brown, G. Ackin and W. Ackin, Misses Smart, McCluggage, Rodgers, Hoole, Corrigan, Brown and Wilcox.

TOKO DISTRICT NEWS.

A special meeting of the Toko branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in Mrs. Evan Jones dining-room. The remits for the executive meeting to be held in July were discussed. Those present were Mesdames Maunsell (president), Jones, Anderson, Kaye, Simmons, Harper, L. Milne, Ward, Marfell and Woollaston, Misses Leydon, Needham, Butler, Maunsell and Milne. . A large and representative meeting was held in the Toko hall on "Wednesday afternoon, when a committee was formed to conduct the campaign for the Toko candidate (Elva Milne, aged three years) for the Plunket baby queen carnival. Thre members of the Stratford plunket Society attended and the president (Mrs. McDowall) gave an interesting and helpful address. Mrs. J. B. Hine was elected chairwoman and Miss C- Milne secretary. An amusement committee was formed and numerous entertainments were arranged. Miss P. Dagg is spending a holiday at Kohuratahi.
