DENIAL BY PRIME MINISTER.

UNEMPLOYMENT FUND STRAINED

Rumours have been current that' the Government intends to increase the wages tax, but the Prime Minister, ,the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes, stated this afternoon that the Cabinet had not given any consideration to such a prpposal. It was no secret, Mr. Forbes said, that the funds of the Unemployment Board were being strained to the utmost, but any suggestion that an increase in the wages tax was being considered could be emphatically denied.
