SALARIES DISPUTE IN FIJI
PROTEST AT GOVERNOR’S ACTION. COUNCIL DEFEATS MOTION. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyricht. mt. t - Suva, June 9 - Ihe Legislative Council’s elected members protested against the action of the Governor, Sir A. G. M. Fletcher, in increasing the salary of the Secretary of Native Affairs without reference to the Council. . Their motion was lost on a' block official vote, and the elected members have cabled the Secretary of State. Meanwhile the Council is ’adjourned. •The action of the elected members of the. Legislative - Council is the scjuel to their. move to reduce the salaries of Colonial Office officials in Fiji. .This has been bitterly opposed by the Administration members on the Council, and as they hold a majority voting power they have rejected the proposals.
